This is the all-new generation 2023 Lexus RX

The new 2023 Lexus RX unveiled this week is a new generation of the pioneer of luxury SUVs. The Lexus RX was indeed the first premium SUV to arrive on the market, launching what has become one of the largest and most important segments in the automotive industry in Canada. The new generation of the Lexus RX keeps everything that we love about the current model, but also adds enhanced technology, more interior space, and three new hybrid powertrains. What is not to love about that?

Three new hybrid engines for the 2023 Lexus RX

The Lexus RX was one of the first luxury vehicles to offer a hybrid engine and the new generation of the RX will push the envelope even further by offering three electrified powertrains. The first will be offered in the Lexus RX 350h. It is a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor on the front axle and another on the rear axle. Total output is rated at 246 hp and 233 pound-feet of torque. Lexus says this hybrid powertrain will feel just as quick as the current hybrid powertrain in the Lexus 450h, but it will also be slightly more efficient with an average fuel consumption rating of just 7.1 L per 100 km.

Next up is a brand-new, very powerful hybrid option for the Lexus RX. It will be the new 2023 Lexus RX 500h which features an impressive new 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor that delivers an impressive 367 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque. This will be enough to reach 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. The Lexus RX 500h is one of the quickest, most powerful Lexus models ever built with a hybrid engine.

Lexus also says we can expect a new plug-in hybrid version eventually but did not provide any details. The new Lexus RX PHEV will likely offer similar specs to the new NX 450h PHEV which means over 60 kilometres of range and over 300 horsepower.

The 2023 Lexus NX will also be offered with a new 2.4-litre turbocharged engine as a standard powertrain. This engine will deliver 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It will replace the current V6 and deliver superior accelerations and passing performance.

Other improvements made to the 2023 Lexus RX include:

  • New Advanced Park technology
  • New Lexus Safety Sense 3.0 system
  • New Premium+ and F SPORT Performance grades
