Some of the Technologies Used by Lexus to Improve its Vehicle’s Fuel Economy

Lexus employs many advanced technologies to make its vehicles more comfortable, safer and more fuel efficient. Here are three of the technologies that promote a lower fuel consumption.

The Eco mode

Almost every Lexus model is equipped with a drive mode selector which allows you to choose between several preset parameters for the vehicle’s systems. If you want to benefit from the lowest fuel consumption possible in your Lexus, the Eco mode is the one to select. This driving mode changes how the transmission and the accelerator react with the goal of helping you drive in a more economical manner. By making the accelerator less sensitive, Eco mode means that you have more pedal travel for the same throttle application, thus reducing the number of harsh starts.

The two types of hybrid systems

Many Lexus vehicles are available with a traditional hybrid system, which uses an electric motor to power the vehicle in certain circumstances and provide assistance to the gasoline engine when the load is increased, during acceleration or when climbing a hill, for example. This allows the use of a smaller and more fuel-efficient engine while keeping a satisfying level of performances. New for 2022, a plug-in hybrid system joins the Lexus lineup aboard the refreshed NX. This powertrain features a larger battery which you can recharge with a cable. This allows the NX 450h+ to drive for 60 kilometers without using a drop of fuel, which means that most drivers will be able to complete their entire commute using only electricity.

The adaptive cruise control

The adaptive cruise control is designed to precisely maintain a set distance between the preceding vehicle and your Lexus. This helps fuel efficiency by smoothing out the accelerations and decelerations encountered in heavy traffic by accelerating gently and coasting to slow down as dictated by the traffic around, without jerking you back in your seat every time the car in from moves away.
