If your search for a compact to midsize premium SUV has made you consider Lexus models, you will have noticed that both the NX and the RX fit your basic requirements. Here is how you can make your choice between both models easier.

Size

The main difference you will notice between the 2023 Lexus NX and the 2023 Lexus RX is the exterior dimensions of these two models. Indeed, the NX is significantly smaller in every dimension than the RX, making it easier to park and maneuver around the city. Of course, this translates into slightly smaller interior measurements, but the NX still offers a very respectable level of cargo and passenger space. In fact, the NX actually has more total cargo volume than the RX with up to 1,328 litres with the rear seat folded. The larger size of the RX also has its own advantages since a longer wheelbase makes for an even smoother ride over rough roads.

Powertrains

The 2023 Lexus NX and the 2023 Lexus RX are also quite different under the hood since the entry-level NX uses a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that makes 203 horsepower. For more efficiency and slightly more power, the 2.5L hybrid model with 240 horsepower can be ordered, as can the 275-horsepower 2.4 liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. Topping off the NX lineup is the plug-in model that benefits from 304 horsepower and up to 58 kilometers of electric range. In the case of the RX, the same turbocharged engine is standard, and a revised version of the hybrid powertrain makes 246 horsepower in the RX 350h. Unique to the RX 500h is a hybrid system built upon the turbocharged 2.4L engine that delivers 366 horsepower and over 400 lb-ft of torque.

The F Sport models

Both the Lexus RX and the Lexus NX offer more dynamic trim levels and optional packages under the F Sport brand that make them more appealing to some buyers. The main difference is that on the NX, the F-Sport features are contained within three packages which can be purchased individually to tailor the level of sportiness and luxury to every driver. In the case of the RX, many F Sport features are included when choosing the 500h version, with some others being offered in an other package.
