2021 Lexus RX vs. 2021 Acura RDX: Better Performance and Efficiency

The RX has a special place in Canada. Assembled in Cambridge, Ontario, Lexus knows what the country wants in a luxury crossover. It has a place at the top of its segment, and the latest model is set to push rivals aside once again. We also like to compare the RX to other models to demonstrate its outstanding qualities. Here, we compare it to the Acura RDX.

The Lexus RX offers better power and efficiency

The RX features two engine choices, including gas-only and hybrid power. The RX 350 and 350 L models include a 3.5-litre, naturally aspirated six-cylinder that builds 295 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque.

The RDX's only powerplant is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that peaks at 274 horsepower. Although the RDX has slightly more torque, the RX's 3.5-litre uses its 295 horsepower more quietly with a smoother feel.

The RX 450h and 450h L add an electric motor with the 3.5-litre engine to create the Lexus Hybrid Drive. Both combine to output an impressive 308 net horsepower—the most power out of any model in this comparison. These hybrid models also have the best fuel efficiency, too. The 450h has a fuel economy of 7.5/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway), and the 450h L achieves 8.1/8.4 L/100 km. The RDX climbs to 11.0/8.6 km in the same conditions, which is a significant leap in costs for less performance.

The RX’s Lexus Safety System+ 2.0

Inside, the RX series is equipped with LSS+ 2.0, a bundle of four separate safety systems that enhance driving decisions and awareness. One of the most recent innovations improves the existing Pre-Collision System with Daytime Pedestrian.

Now called the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian (Daytime & Lowlight) and Daytime Bicycle, it increases radar sensitivity and range to detect pedestrians in more conditions. The Acura RDX doesn't boast pedestrian detection this sensitive, and this is important if you drive in populated areas around Canada.

When you need to carry more passengers, the RX also offers the option of a third row, something that the RDX does not offer. The RX L series also features more front leg and rear head and shoulder room than its competitor.
