Lexus Safety Sense + system explained

All Lexus models are offered with advanced safety technologies that include a host of advanced driver assistance features. The goal of these technologies is to detect and prevent collisions when possible, but above all to give the driver greater peace of mind behind the wheel.

There are different Lexus Safety Sense + systems depending on the model including:

  • LSS +
  • LSS + 2.0
  • LSS + 2.5
  • LSS + A

Each group adds additional technologies or additional functions to existing technologies. Let's take a look at the pre-collision system first.

Pre-collision system

LSS +

The Lexus Safety Sense + system is able to detect a vehicle or even a pedestrian who suddenly presents a high risk of collision. If so, the pre-collision system warns the driver. If the collision cannot be avoided, the system applies the brakes to help prevent or lessen the impact.

LSS + 2.0

This system is improved and more responsive to what's ahead in addition to having better range. It can detect daytime pedestrians as well as daytime cyclists in addition to vehicles.

LSS + 2.5

The LSS + 2.5 system includes intersection assistance and can detect when a pedestrian is crossing the street or an oncoming vehicle is approaching when you turn left at an intersection. In addition, the system can keep the vehicle in the lane if you avoid a pedestrian or cyclist who is on the road near the sidewalk.

LSS + A

Exclusive to the Lexus LS, the LSS + A system adds the following features:

- Pedestrian detection alert

- Active steering assistance

- Front lateral pre-collision system

- Front cross traffic alert

Thus, with LSS + A you have increased protection against all types of collisions including side and rear.

Lane Keeping Assistance

LSS +

The LSS + system is able to detect if your Lexus is about to leave its lane and notify you. With the steering assistance function, the system can make slight corrections to ensure the stability of the vehicle in its lane.

LSS + 2.0

Similar to the previous system, LSS + 2.0 adds a lane keeping system with increased line detection and a lane centering feature when dynamic radar cruise control is activated. Simply put, these systems can return the vehicle to the center of the lane and prevent collisions caused by distraction or fatigue.

LSS 2.5+

The system can continue to operate even when there is a temporary interruption in the boundary lines and can center the Lexus in the center of the lane.

Lexus Co-Drive

Exclusive to the Lexus LS LSS + A system, Co-Drive can perform automatic lane changes when the turn signal is activated by moving the vehicle after confirming that the lane is clear.

Dynamic radar cruise control

LSS +: This system operates between 40 km/h and 180 km/h and allows you to maintain a pre-established safe distance between the vehicle in front and you on the motorway. If the vehicle ahead slows down, your Lexus will slow down too.

LSS + 2.0: With LSS + 2.0, the speed range is complete which means your Lexus can come to a complete stop if necessary, in a sudden congestion situation.

LSS + 2.5: This system includes speed management when entering and exiting turns in addition to stopping up to 0 km/h if necessary.

The Lexus Safety Sense + system suite also includes automatic high beams. Simply put, with LSS you are always safe no matter the situation which contributes to higher confidence and a much smoother ride.
